Buckwheat pancakes!!!!! Ideally with blueberries… :-P Actually, my childhood family and my current family have never had much interest in buckwheat pancakes. I just fell in love with ’em on my own.

There are definitely a couple of situational memory associations too, though. The first I can remember is kind of silly; after taking off for a year to traipse around Europe, my parents picked me up at the airport and offered to take me out wherever I wanted. My response? Just give me water with ice and dark bread!

The other time, as most women will agree, was during pregnancy. Of course I wanted some of the old family comfort foods. My husband wasn’t even aware of those recipes until then! The other thing was that even though I’d been a vegetarian for years, I suddenly had to have beef — like, a lot. Afterwards I had very little interest again, although it must have traveled through the umbilical cord because my youngest in particular is the world’s biggest carnivore. :-(

Fun piece— thanks, Michael!
