Lovely, alto! This actually dovetails nicely with a conversation I just had with Ré Harris that started with her great poem Assault by Number. Her point — with which I vehemently agree — is that each of these groups that “might not fit a norm,” in your words, are all fighting to have our humanity recognized, and we need to recognize the humanity in each other. We’re seeing too much in-fighting between groups that should understand exactly where the others are coming from (think, for example, the Women’s March vs. people of color), and we’d carry more weight working together as a team. The quote I used is an old one that has been said many ways by many people:

United We Stand, Divided We Fall

Or as herself says even better:

Let’s not play by their poisonous rules.
We can make our own, keep our hearts, and win.
