My parents were quietly racist (at least until they gained some exposure) and my school was mostly rich white kids. I still figured it out. People can figure it out if they keep their eyes wide open — most of them just prefer not to. Why anyone even gives a damn about skin shade is utterly beyond me; it’s not like it raises them up to put someone else down. Sorry, I’m having an I Hate the World moment.
