What huh? Of course those things are horrible, but so less violent forms of sexism are okay? First of all, her problem wasn’t with the door holding — it was with the guy expecting her to Switch Doors just so he could hold it. Second, undercover sexism is really, really hard to fight. In a country that allows clitorectomies, you know what you’re up against. Here in the Western world, it’s very hard to prove why you didn’t get the promotion, why you get less pay, why you’re not invited to the boys’ club. Don’t discount the power of the symptoms.
