Monterey Cypress

Abnormally large vegetables rationalized to be normal sized.

The bulk of their growth stands upright.

Withstanding the cold, the constant visits of Summer fog, and the urban’s own growth.

Taller than city, they peer over rooftops and spot me through the windows of my warm escape.

I relish the random shapes they draw in the skyline, apologizing for the unnatural edges of indifferent buildings.
