A letter to humans, keep sunbears wild.

There’s so much trees can tell us if we look closely.

This tree has markings of the Sunbear, endangered and rare to see in the wild.

I’ve seen sunbears before in captivity at a rescue centre in Indonesia where the centre was attempting to give a safe life away from poachers and illegal logging to these intelligent creatures, but for me — it felt worse seeing them there.

Sunbears, along with other wildlife belong in the wild, not locked up in a cage. They belong in the places where we don’t see them, but where we only see the markings of their paws, and we feel honoured and connected knowing that they have climbed the tree we are seeing before our eyes.

They deserve privacy.

They deserve a life free of poaching and palm oil.

They deserve a forest free of human encroachment.

I am sorry I can’t give this to you, but I can share this message with fellow humans.

Dear humans,

Please think of an animals welfare before you visit sanctuaries and zoos, please remember that they belong in the wild, and the only reason you are seeing a wild animal close up — is because our greed and cruelty put them there. And check the labels of where you’re products are coming from, and that they don’t include palm oil which is decimating the sunbears home and their chance of staying wild.

With kindness,
Amy x
