Meg Richey is a high school senior from Charlottesville, Virginia. We met her during the She Started It Screening Tour and were impressed by her maturity and brilliance. She won the $10,000 scholarship of the PepsiCo and 21st Century Fox Contest for “The Search For Hidden Figures”, won the Bryan Cameron Education Foundation scholarship, she’s a HERlead Fellow and Grant Awardee of the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing National Honorable Mention Award and the Virginia Award Winner, and a team member of the University of Virginia (UVA) Biomedical Engineering Design Lab. Alexis: I started the She Started It ESTEAM SUMMIT for Girls in Charlottesville, Virginia, a free, day-long event for girls in grades K-12. Inspired by the She Started It documentary, I brought together four other dynamic ladies in education and STEM to organize the event. It has been a little over a year since we released our film She Started It into the world, at the Mill Valley Film Festival in California. It has been an exhilarating journey, as we realized the hustle was just beginning. Our award-winning documentary has had…..drumroll……….300+ screening events in over 20 countries! :)

We’re also proud to have been selected by the prestigious film diplomacy program American Film Showcase to tour US Embassies around the world, and to have signed with top educational distributor Grasshopper Film, which means that She Started It is now available for purchase by schools, universities…

We’re back with our #IStartedIt campaign featuring driven people starting awesome things! In the spotlight today, Girls Driving for a Difference, a team of Stanford women using design to empower young women across America to become leaders of social change.

This past summer of 2015, they drove cross-country for 14 weeks in an RV and coached over 50 design & leadership workshops to over 1200 young girls in diverse communities across the nation.

Our documentary on women tech founders was supposed to be just a web series, but it turned into a feature length film, as we followed 5 driven young women on their road to startup success. Over the past 2 and a half years, the film has pretty much become a startup of its own.
