She Started It: One Year On
It has been a little over a year since we released our film She Started It into the world, at the Mill Valley Film Festival in California. It has been an exhilarating journey, as we realized the hustle was just beginning. Our award-winning documentary has had…..drumroll……….300+ screening events in over 20 countries! :)
We’re also proud to have been selected by the prestigious film diplomacy program American Film Showcase to tour US Embassies around the world, and to have signed with top educational distributor Grasshopper Film, which means that She Started It is now available for purchase by schools, universities and libraries! Reaching as many students as possible has always been our number one goal, to inspire and empower the next generation to take risks and not be afraid to pursue their dreams, so this is a big step towards that.
We were also impressed and excited to collaborate with the best educators in Charlottesville, Virginia, who put on the first ever She Started It Esteam Girls Summit, a full day of workshops around science, entrepreneurship and the arts for middle and high school girls. It was incredible to see the girls creating thanks to the mentors who came in drove to share their knowledge. Another highlight of the year includes finally building our very own She Started It Curriculum, which is a lesson plan for teachers to accompany the film in the classroom, thanks to our partners Veritas Technologies, the National Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education and Ink & Pixel Agency.
We want to thank from the bottom of our hearts the people who organize screenings, mobilize their community, and foster solidarity and inspiration in their communities with the film. You are the true heroes! Stay tuned for more exciting news, and here’s a recap of the past year’s roller coaster, in pictures!
The French Premiere with our sponsor the US Embassy in Paris in January 2017, held at Parisian startup hub The Family. The screening was followed by a panel with Agathe Molinar, Roxanne Varza, Raodath Aminou and Samira Chakkaf Andalouci.

An emotional night ! The Los Angeles Premiere at University of California in March 2017, with Co-Star Thuy Truong, and with our partners at the Viterbi School of Engineering, the School of Cinematic Arts, Guardant Health, and Associate Producer Fran Maier .
Over the past 12 months, we have been lucky to have screened at 300+ events around the world in over 20 countries, from Germany to Senegal, through India, Mongolia, Switzerland, Estonia, Taiwan, (a tour in Africa!) Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and all across the United States. We couldn’t have done it without awesome screening partners such as Google X, JLabs, the American Film Showcase, Adobe, Microsoft, Ellevate Network, Salesforce, Disney, Apple, Lyft, Bank of the West, AIG, Tom Tom Founders Festival, Harvard Business School, Northeastern, Northwestern, and SO many more. Reactions to the film have been phenomenal; so have the people we met on the way, and we will be sharing those stories here!! Stay tuned.
