Have you ever been invited somewhere or decided that you just wanted to turn up one night, you go your closet only to discover that you have nothing to wear? You have no room to fit any more hangers on the rack, yet you still feel like nothing you have looks good on you. Sis I’ve got news for you, we’ve all been there. In this week’s post I’m giving 5 easy ways you can avoid feeling like you just can’t create that look you want, no matter what you pull from your closet.

The key to all this is to look at your wardrobe like it’s a puzzle and try to make it so that everything fits together. So that means having key pieces that you can pull at any time to create any type of look, no matter the occasion.

1. Buy basic colors like black, gray, white, nude/tan, etc. in different hues. Every wardrobe/closet needs them. Basics can be paired with each other or with busy prints and fabrics to pull a look together. Easily and effortlessly. If you do the work now, you’ll spend less time later on trying to force things that just look crazy together. Invest in the pieces you actually need to create beautiful looks instead of just buying them thoughtlessly.

2. Wear dresses by themselves and with cardigans, jackets, and other outerwear. Depending on the style of dress, you can make it look completely different by adding this easy and simple pairing. One dress can create 2–3 different looks.

3. Buy denim in different color washes. Lighter hues can be worn to social events and settings that don’t require you to dress up. Darker hues can be worn at work or similar events that require you to be semi-dressed up. The good thing about denim is, once you find a few good pairs, you’ll have them for a very long time. Just pair them with the hottest trends from each season to keep them looking fresh and new.

4. Wear co-ords aka matching tops and bottoms together and as separates. You can pair each piece with other complimentary pieces and literally make several different outfits.

5. Listen to me, no wardrobe is complete without a couple of cardigans and blazers. Add as many as you can, in as many colors as you can. Because they can make your outfit go from looking like something you just threw together, to a thoughtfully planned out outfit. These work especially well if you’re mixing and matching different colors and prints by blending them all together.

PS Am I the only one that’s still high of that Beyonce performance this past weekend? OMG incredible.
