I recently saw a post from entrepreneur and girl boss Myliek Teele on Instagram, where she mentioned that she was recently taught about the best jean styles for her body type. And this reminded me that a lot of us don’t know that some style of jeans are unflattering and don’t show off our figures in the best light.

So, I created this post to highlight a few of the best jean styles and fits for some of the most common body types.

One

Body Type: Curvy Waist

Best Styles & Cuts: Dark wash denim, straight and wide leg cuts that do not emphasize your figure.

Bonus Tip: If you want to show off your curves skinny fit and lighter wash denim should be your best friend.

Tip: Avoid light wash, skinny jeans or embellishments that bring attention to that area.

Two

Body Type: Short Legs

Best Styles & Cuts: Shorter hems above the ankle because it gives the illusion of longer legs.

Tip: Avoid long lengths because they make you look shorter. Showing some skin makes your legs appear longer.

Three

Body Type: Long Legs

Best Styles & Cuts: Fringe or undone hems that add extra length.

Tip: Finding the right length may be tricky, so try to find jeans with extra details, or buy two pairs and have a seamstress add extra length.

Four

Body Type: Inverted Triangle (top half of the body is wider than the bottom half)

Best Styles & Cuts: Layers, embellishments, wide-leg fit etc.

Tip: The goal is to give the illusion of curves for a more balanced shape, so try to find styles that give you give this illusion. Avoid styles that stick too close to the body.

Five

Body Type: Rectangular (shape is more straight up and down)

Best Styles & Cuts: Dark wash, prints and patterns, layers and details around your hips and thighs.

Tip: The goal is to make your bottom half stand out on your frame so you appear curvier than you actually are. Avoid light wash and skinny jeans these styles tend to emphasize what you’re actually working with.
