“Having a baby is a life-changer. It gives you a whole other perspective on why you wake up every day.” -Taylor Hanson

Babies are beautiful blessings from heaven. They are the most precious thing in every parent’s life. When your first child is born, it will be quite overwhelming for you to cope up with the fact that your baby needs your care and love all the time. You suddenly have to face too many legal formalities like registering your child’s birth. No parents would wish for their children to face difficulties in their future because of not having a birth certificate.

Birth certificate holds the official records of your baby’s birth date and place.

Following are the steps to get a birth certificate for your baby:

Most hospitals provide facility for registering the child’s birth right from the hospital itself. The birth certificate will be provided to you right when the mother and baby are discharged from the hospital. The hospital authorities will send a copy of the birth certificate to the Ministry of health too. Now, this is the simplest way to obtain a birth certificate for your baby.

Don’t forget the fact that you have to come to a decision about your baby’s name by this time.

List of documents required:

You have to hand over the following documents along with the application form.

1. A copy of birth notification

2. Original passport and copy of both parents

3. If father’s name is not mentioned in the mother’s passport, submit marriage certificate.

The above-mentioned documents must reach within two weeks of the baby’s birth.

The application will be processed within three working days from the date you submitted the documents. You will be requested to collect the certificate through call. Birth certificates will be issued in Arabic and you will have to get it translated into English. This won’t be an issue since there are many offices in Dubai providing the legal translation.

Birth certificate attestation

Now, this is important. The birth certificate will be made legal only if it is attested. You have to get both English and Arabic version of the certificate attested from the department of preventative medicine first and then from the Ministry of external affairs. Consult someone experienced enough in birth certificate attestation since this could be a real time killer if you are not much aware of the legal formalities.

Apply for a passport for your baby

After you get birth certificate attestation, apply for a passport for your new baby. Go to your country’s embassy or consulate in UAE and apply for the baby’s passport.

Congratulations on your new born child. :)
