What’s your Office Attendance Policy?

Does your company believe in an 8 hour strict office attendance policy?
Are you very strict at calculating the hours at desk and taking action at times if the hours are not met?
Are the employees getting productive due to this strict monitoring?
If you check with the industry giants Facebook,Amazon,Google etc you could find that there is no such thing as official Office Attendance Policy. The main reason for such arrangement is that the newgen jobs does have some creative element to it. And you can’t force people to be creative at specific time of day.So what most good companies and managers end up realizing is that if you give an interesting problem to your people, and let their brains work on it whenever, things get done mostly on time, because even though someone might have not been eight hours in the office that day, there’s a quite high chance they spend additional three hours at home working on it.
Most teams at Microsoft and Amazon have Unofficial Core Hours, where it’s good to be in the office, mostly because there needs to be some effective communication between the team that works on a project. These core hours can be typically 10am to 4pm, where most meetings are scheduled. Outside of that though, the work time should be rather flexible and is mainly a matter of figuring out what works for you, your team and your manager.
Any company(except manufacturing) that tries to establish official Office Attendance/Timing Policy will be shooting itself in the foot. The end result will be that people will attend the office during the required hours, but that doesn’t mean they will be productive through that time. Meanwhile, the time they put at home to work will sharply decrease, so the net result will be negative for the company.
