Good article, very well written and concisely making the point. I agree that we shouldn’t stop girls playing with dolls for the sake of stopping them being too “girly”. I agree that we need to expose our children of both genders to all possible interests and fields. But i do think that sometimes the dominant culture — which is the current gender division and reinforcing of beauty stereotypes for girls and brave and courageous for boys, as an example, needs addressing. We can’t ingore the current deelpy engrained gender specific images and messaging and we can’t pretend we live in a world where women and men are all equal and receive exactly gender neutral education. Because they don’t. As long as we address the current misalignments in communication to boys and girls and expose them in the same way, we should be seeing some results. But going onyl one way or half-way won’t be sufficient in my view. Laura
