Usually BMW updates it’s sport flagship every 3 years and 2018 would be the 3rd update for the bavarian SportBike that change the business the mighty S 1000 RR. If BMW follows it’s tradition — then they will announce the new 2018 RR at the Intermot Show in Cologne, Germany. Here are the very first spy photos:
What can we see ?
- Drastically lighter swing-arm and new rear suspension
- New sub-frame
- New engine cases likely mean engine updates
- Integrated mirror-indicators instead of classic blinkers
- New Fairing and headlight design (most likely not final design)
- Different exhaust system with a smaller can
- Some sort of new instrument cluster, probably a new color display, which looks from photo #2 a lot like the TFT Display BMW just announced for the new GS shown below.
What do we expect / speculate ?
- BMW started rolling out new bikes with the TFT screen and more rider connectivity, so probably the same system will be on the RR
- BMW forte is to build engines and they do it better than anybody, so I expect about 10 extra ponies for the 2018 model, which would bring the bike up to respectable 210 BHP.
- Weight savings. The S 1000 RR has some extra pounds in comparison to the competition and this model will be most likely a bit lighter.
- Sleek design with LEDs and projector lenses just like the Panigale and R1.
