I completely agree with your assessment about Gawker and I’m glad they went down. Almost every article on their website and their companion websites is a cringe-fest and it’s laughable to consider them as journalists. This is not about the freedom of press or censoring but about preserving decency and respecting personal boundaries. Sites like Gawker does nothing but create meaningless gossip and promote hateful judgement between people.
