Just a flick in the blinds

I once asked N-kun, “What would happen if we could choose to be another person?”

He calmly said that, “If it’s possible, we could choose to be another one. But we couldn’t know how far the beginning should be, and who we would become. Instead of that, why don’t we re-start by choosing to live this life the best we can? Keep fighting!”

“Fighting.” — That is the title of a new entry Thuy Muoi published yesterday. My first time knowing her was from Forbes 30 under 30 event that I joined 2 years ago. At that time, I admired her like the way I did to every young and talented person from this special list. But from the first time reading her Medium blog, I knew that I was impressed by this courageous lady. It is not only because of her admirable career or passion, but also because of her — choosing to live this life to the fullest, while facing a serious cancer. Like the way she keeps both enjoying and fighting (so hard) for a life that worth living.

“Each of us has many battles that we need to fight, some might be more difficult than the other.”

I was thinking about these words of her on my whole way from office to the railway station yesterday. The Grab guy who picked me up kept complaining about a customer who had just canceled a delivery booking, which made him go around and around while it was raining cats and dogs. This guy tried to be nice to me, and asked if I could give him a 5-star feedback so that he could increase his average rating. I at first felt a little bit confused because of his way — which is quite aggressively asking for the high rate from customer. Looking at the way he got wet and his glasses covered with raindrops though, I felt a little bit guilty having that thought. He is just a guy, at the age of 30 — I guess, trying to earn a living. He may have his small family, have to take care of his parents, or maybe not. I really don’t know what is the story behind that guy. But the important thing is that, I know he is fighting for something, and he tries his best doing it. Like the super-cool female Grabber I met at the same day, like all the drivers that I talked to, and like any other persons out there learning, working, doing unknow things, for some reasons we may not know; but at the end, they are warriors on their own battles fighting for lives.

After the ride, I met my brother at the train station several minutes before he left Saigon for coming back to our hometown. He was here some days busy with his business, but didn’t forget to fix every minor broken part of my motorbike, just to make sure my Sirius will be at its best mode. He reminded me of Mom & Dad, who always enjoy caring us by that sweet but silent way.

Today, an all-in-one trouble that came to me, boss-complaints, broken tires, falling-out with achy hands and knees, loosing keys, running out of battery and money with just 9.000 dong in the pocket. What a day! But these horrible things are not something that could kill any one of us. As long as you know what you are fighting for. As long as, I am still here — breathing, dancing in my mind, feeling, writing and singing these words from my favourite Green Day’s song.

“Do you know what’s worth fighting for?”

Saigon — 1:21 am, July 21, 17

Still at the sofa waiting for room-mate and room-key to enter. It is enjoyable though.
