Public Relations Past & the Present
“The only thing that is constant is CHANGE”. Everything and everybody we are surrounded by today has evolved and changed in some or the other way. Even the PR consultancies in India and around the world have always changed for the better. Today’s world is all about competition, survival of the fittest. Every company wants to be the best in their fields and for this they have continuously tried to change themselves with times.
The journey of the PR industry till date has not been a smooth ride. At every step of their journey they have experienced something new, unique and challenging. But, the main challenge is to cope up and maintain the change. The world has become smaller as innovations continue to bridge the gap and break the barriers in our communities, making space for a global village where everything would, could and should matter to everyone. Talking about PR, there are many changes experienced by the industry.
Initially, PR was only known for giving out articles in newspapers, contacting the news reporters to cover the event, contacting the newspaper journalists and scheduling an interview with him for the client, conducting surveys to understand the customer mindset and also to know what problems are they facing. But, when we talk about the current PR industry, it’s all about internet and technology. Internet has surely revolutionized the PR communication. Social Media has helped this industry to change its face. It has made people more aware, change and care about things, be it a CWG Scam to a product launch etc. Platforms like facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, pinterest, instagram etc, having their own use, are among the most powerful media platforms today. Now-a-days, for many press conferences even the bloggers, twitter influencers are also invited so that their viewpoints help the company in influencing their target audience.
To make the consumer aware about the products/services/offers, the company sends personalized SMS’s, Direct Mails, update/tweets on facebook and twitter. Any consumer would get influenced for the product/service/offer easily if the company’s message is clearly conveyed. This means that the content of the message plays an important role in influencing the target audience. Every customer makes judgment about the company and its products on the basis of the content/ message delivered by the company. So every company and the pr consultancy should bear in mind that they have to keep their message clear, simple and easy to remember i.e. the quality should be good.
What we see is what we like and what we like is what we remember. This saying is practiced bay everyone, mostly, on a daily basis. So every company should take an extra effort in representing their data in an attractive manner for example the companies can make use of infographics and represent the data in the most attractive way. This will help the company in spreading awareness about the facts.
So every PR agency should remember these facts and try making use of all these points in their strategic planning. This will help them to grow.
