Step 1: Identify Your Emotion

First things first, you have to know what you’re feeling.

If you’re happy, sad, or somewhere in between — identify that emotion.

Step 2: Challenge Your Thoughts

Now, question yourself.

Why do you feel the way you do?

What thoughts are causing these feelings?

Sometimes, our beliefs are just based on exaggerations or opinions thrown at us.

Challenge those thoughts and question their validity.

Step 3: Understand the Deeper Meaning

This step is all about digging a bit deeper.

Understand the deeper meaning behind your feelings. Use them as opportunities to grow and learn more about yourself.

Step 4: Replace Destructive Thoughts

Ask yourself, “How can I view or do things differently to feel better and live a greater life?” Transform those negative thoughts into positive ones.

Remember, we create our sadness by attaching negative conclusions to past experiences.

Step 5: Visualize Handling Emotions

Imagine yourself handling the emotion you’re feeling, but in the future.

Repetition is key here.

By practicing how to handle that emotion repeatedly, you’ll gain the knowledge and skill to effectively manage it the next time it shows up in your life.
