The “lesson” statements are valid and good reminders. However, I kept getting stuck here: The lesson of the soldier to serve and protect others is directly followed by putting forth Washington and Jefferson as “well-regarded”. Yet both owned slaves. Since it is generally recognized that history is written/recorded by the victors, I wonder if there is another life lesson to be shared here. Not a criticism so much as a question. Any ideas?
