Davidson, NC is a town that cares about communication. Their town website provides a detailed and easy-to-understand explanation of Davidson’s annual plan, complete with responsible parties, next steps and projected time frames. A 10-week course sponsored by the town titled “Civics 101” allows citizens to learn more about the inner workings of Davidson’s government. At monthly “Coffee Chats”, members of the Board of Commissioners buy citizens a round of coffee and talk informally about important town updates. And now, by launching SeeClickFix, Davidson is providing its 12,000+ residents a new way to get in touch with local government.

SeeClickFix is a web and mobile platform that enables citizens to report non-emergency issues, such as potholes, broken streetlights and illegal parking directly to city government. Once reported, a request is routed automatically to the proper government official, who updates the citizen in real time when the issue is acknowledged and ultimately fixed. Citizens also have the capability of viewing issues reported by others in their neighborhood, and can vote on issues they too would like addressed. In this way, citizens play a more active part in improving their communities.

“We’re happy to launch SeeClickFix as a tool for Davidson citizens to report issues and problems such as potholes or graffiti,” says Cristina Shaul, Davidson’s Public Information Officer. “This tool is very user friendly, accessible via the new Town of Davidson app and online, and will provide users with status updates so they will know where their project is in the queue and how the situation was resolved.”

While town leaders are excited by this opportunity to engage citizens, they are also looking forward to utilizing SeeClickFix’s internal request management system to respond to issues more efficiently and observe trends in issue reporting. In this way, they hope to be more proactive when planning for future services.

Requests can be submitted through the city’s website or via the SeeClickFix mobile app for Android or iOS.
