Ragging stands for harassment of fresh students during orientation in colleges. It is banned in India, and there has reports of death of students due to ragging, and there is law against ragging which attracts jail term.

Ragging is the initiation ritual practiced in colleges of Indian Subcontinent — Namely, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It is the legacy of British India, and students do practical jokes to initiate the freshers.

I studied in BIT Sindri and IIT Kharagpur and I was ragged at both places. In BIT what they did was:

Three people, with one over arse of another people, the top person saying “Sabse Maze mein hum”, the middle person saying “Na Khusi Na Gam”, and bottom most person saying “Laure se gaye hum”.
