“ Travel is a therapeutic exercise which heals us with the beauty and experiences of the unexplored world “.

One of the best mediums that brings out the exquisite of travel to the world are through the movies. These compel people to go out, enjoy the a world that you have never been to, meet new people, explore the new places.

However, who had ever imagined that a pandemic could occur in the 21st century. No body in their rarest of the rare dreams had even imagined that one day travelling even to a grocery shop would be a Hercules Task. This season, each one of us are craving for a great break despite this COVID giving us the Work From Home Break. But no, we don’t deserve such an awful break where we can’t travel, enjoy the picturesque locations, try out the cuisine and of course, capture them in our lenses.

These are the six Bollywood movies that have a great storyline to get your seated throughout the movie with amazing picture locations that are bound to get you off the couch to just pack your bags and buzz out to get relief and inspiration. These are my personal favourite ones that are way too tempting to just let go.

1. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara or ZNMD

ZNMD

When it comes to travel, the first movie that tops the list is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The film explores the lanes of Sun-Baked Spain. ZNMD gives us an insight into the fun-filled bachelor trip of the three friends. It takes our breath away in the deep sea diving scenes, the skydiving, the enthralling lazy roads of Spain, the risky San Fermin, running with the bulls. It brought out that festival that one would Indians (a majority of ’em) had not even heard of, the Tomatina festival. In fact, this film has made Spain a popular travel destination for Indians. The craze for Spain travel almost doubled up right afeer the release of this movie.

2. Piku

Piku

A short simple, beautiful and meaningful film made on the relationship of daughter and father that deepens the bond between them even more. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, this movie begins from D for Delhi and ends in Charismatic Kolkata. The road trip travel by car all the way from Delhi to Kolkata, makes us cringe to go on a road trip like this one. They cross different states and cities like Varanasi to reach the cramped cultural roads of Kolkata. This movie has in every aspect explored the modern Kolkata as well the Kolkata that is still soaked in culture. The trams, Victoria Memorial, Park Street, Cathedral Church, Bangla Cuisine,…..!!! Every Bengali will relate to this film. Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Late Irrfan Khan were a slice of life showing a dysfunctional family like never before.

3. Highway

Highway

This film is one of those films that you would never want to end. It’s totally like the dialogue of the movie by Veera (Alia Bhatt)

“Par Ye Raasta, Ye Bahaut Accha Hai. Main Chahti Hun Ki Ye Raasta Kabhi Khatam Naa Ho”

It captures the remote Sangla Valley in Himachal Pradesh and drives over to the Aru Valley and Chandanwari near Pahalgam. It’s not just the cinematography that keeps one hooked to this moviw, but it has that story that is rarely seen in Imtiaz Ali’s movies. The essence of the film is travel and has beautifully been captured in it, in every scene. Moreover, I became an ardent fan of Randeep Hooda after watching this movies. And, to comment on Alia Bhatt, this was her 2nd movie and she nailed it.

5. Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani

Ye Jawaani Hai Deewani

This movie has been shot extensively in a number of locations in India as well as outside India. It’s not just the beautiful exotic beauty that has been portrayed in the film, but also the fact that the lead protagonist’s dream career was to be a travel cinematographer. Who can ever forget the iconic Mumbai Central Scene, majestic Manali scenes, and of course, the opulent Palace of Udaipur. Well, this was just the shooting of India, the beautiful scenes of Paris and Lyon. The song Illahi is the one to watch out for. Everything in this movie is breathtaking.

6. Dil Chahta Hai

This film has set travel goals for a whole generation, the present one as well the future one. The movie is remembered for a whole lot of things, the idea of friends travelling to just chill on the beaches of Goa is stuff vacation goals are made of! Such was the influence of the movie, Goa became the national holiday spot for the young generation and still remains so. And of course the innumerable plans of making and then cancelling the Goa plan as well!!! No wonder, we have all said, “chal Goa chalte hain”.

4. Karwaan

Karwaan

This is one of the sweetest movies to have been released starring Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salmaan, Mithila Palkar. This movie proves it’s the journey that matters, not the destination. The road movie revolves around a mix-up of dead bodies and the realization of one’s aim in life. The movie explores the scenic south Indian Places such as Ooty, Kochi, Kerala, and Bangalore. Watch this movie for lush green landscapes, picturesque locations and stunning aerial shots.
