Choose to be Happy

We all struggle with negative thoughts at some point in our life. In fact most people always think negative. They think nothing right can happen to them ever! They think everyone and everything is against them and guess what?They’re right! Why? Because their negative thoughts attract negativity around them and negative things happen to them. Which leads to Anxiety, low self esteem and Depression. According to statistics 350 million people in the world suffer from depression. The suicide rate is awfully high today as compared to past times. But here’s the thing:
Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.
I suffered with negative thoughts and depression when I finished my college and couldn't pass my Medical College Entrance exam. I want to help people and for me being a Doctor was the best way to do that. I was so depressed that I didn't want to do anything. And by anything I mean anything at all. I didn't want to laugh or enjoy or watch TV or read a book or go out or meet friends. But at that time my family was very supportive towards me. They encouraged me that maybe this wasn't the thing for you. They helped me find the good in the bad. I started gaining my confidence back. And started thinking positive. And I could literally feel that when you think positive, Positive things happen!

I tried out some steps suggested by Shawn Achor to practice happiness.

Meditation: It calms your mind. It relaxes your nerves and body and makes your mind clear for a while. You feel energized and happy. And you can think clearer. I tried it and felt great. It felt calming and soothing.

3 Gratitudes: Being grateful about at least 3 things you have.

Alhamdulillah I have so many things to be grateful for. I go to University which many people can’t. I have a roof over my head. I can see perfectly, hear perfectly, speak perfectly. I can eat whatever I want. I am blessed with good health. And I am extremely thankful to ALLAH for all these things because there are people out there who wish for these things.
Engage in Random acts of kindness: I already do it actually. Helping others with even the smallest things makes me happy. Makes me feel good. If I help someone to reach the class they are looking for or if I help my sister with her homework or if I press my brother’s clothes or if I text my friend to ask if she reached home safely? all small things like this make me feel like a better person.

When you’re happy, You become more productive and you Believe in Yourself more. You believe that you can accomplish certain task you take tasks as challenges not as stress. And if you really believe in yourself you can actually do anything!
If you think you can, YOU CAN! If you think you can’t, You’re Right!

Happiness is something you can teach yourself. Happiness is something you can pursue. Just be positive. See the good in everything. When you are good, Good things happen to you.
