The Second Law (book review)

As a Charlie Munger fan and a generalist I had to step into the world of Thermodynamics.
Charlie Munger mentioned it as a good model to better the world of chaos we’ve living it.
Naval Ravikant also emphasized the importance of it.
The book by Peter Atkins is short and well written, it covers the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics:
- 1st Law: Preservation of energy.
- 2nd Law: The amount of entropy(chaos) in the world will increase over time
Peter also gave a very nice ted talk on this subject:
It’s fascinating to discover that everything about us is drifting into chaos. the universe as a whole and we ourselves. Order is only possible as a local and temporal phenomena: You can build a house from rocks but eventually it will dissipate back into rocks and those rocks in turn will dissipate too.
Some quotes from the book:
‘Energy tends to disperse’ is equivalent to saying that ‘entropy tends to increase”
‘The universe has loopholes for miracles’
