This is incorrect in a couple of ways. First, we are not anywhere close to having put behind us the tendency of some elements in our country to make life impossible for others. Second, you falsely assume that assimilation is the end goal. But we didn’t actually start out as a melting pot: we started out as a confederacy of culturally distinct states, and we’ve never actually been homogenous, despite the desires of a minority to whitewash our different into a mythical sameness. Third, you introduce the Alamo out of nowhere.
