All you need to know about trademarking a LOGO
Do you already have a logo or planning to get a logo for your company, but are wondering how to safeguard your identity. Worry not..!! Check out these below details on how to safeguard your company identity.
What is Trade marking a logo really means?? Trademark is basically a name, word, logo or other symbol that represents your company and designing a logo is a great way to establish identity to your company.
So before starting the process I want to walk you through the actual process of obtaining a federally registered trademark, firstly do a search on the ipindia website that is Intellectual Property India. In this website they have a search function so you can search for registered trademarks pending. This is to see if there are any similar or identical to your trademark. I strongly encourage you to not do this by yourself and to instead have an attorney help you with the search process because it may look easy and straight forward but it is not that way. A simple mistake of selecting a wrong name or logo can land you into serious consequences.
Firstly, we will see why trademarks are important in a business?
It makes easy for your customer to find you
The market is crowded and it is very hard to distinguish your business from other competitors. Trademarks are an efficient commercial communication tool to grasp your customer’s attention.
This will make your business stand out. Customers who are viewing a trademark gets to know who they are dealing with, and are less likely to look for alternatives to make a purchase decision.
It gives value to your brand
Trademark serves as status symbol and it is easy for the customer to recognize your brand through Trademark .it removes confusion from the market and builds its stand in the market, customers are able to approach and communicate easily using trademark.
Trademarks are immortal
Your trademark will not expire as long as you are using it. Some of the most recognized brands in the India today have been around for over a hundred years .Tata was first registered in 1868. Be sure the brand fits your company and make a search to make sure your brand is available and doesn’t infringe on anyone’s prior rights. Denial of registration by the ipindia or cease letter from another brand owner may be encountered if proper research is not done before adopting the brand.
Here are the steps to follow that will help you trademark a logo.
