Gardens by the bay bring to life the National Parks Board Singapore’s vision of creating a city in a garden. The Gardens by the bay captures the essence of Singapore as the tropical premier garden city with the perfect environment in which to live and work making Singapore a leading global city of the 21st century.

Gardens by the bay is completely sustainable. The whole garden is powered by its own technology and doesn’t consume the electricity from the city.

We visited the gardens to study and understand the sustainability and the technology they use.

The garden consists of many attractions like conservatory flower dome, conservatory cloud forest, OCBC skywalk, Supertree Grove, sun pavilion, art sculptures, dragonfly lake, heritage gardens and the world of plants.

We first visited conservatory cloud forest and then supertree grove.

The cloud forest has a 35-meter-tall mountain covered in lush vegetation showing off the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. It consists of plant life from tropical highlands up to 2,000 meters above sea level.

The humidity level varies from 80%-90%, while the temperature is about 23°C-25°C. The cloud forest demands very high maintenance although it is very well managed. They also replicated the pitcher plant using LEGO’s, and it looked pretty realistic.

The architecture is very well designed and it consists of a metal hanging bridge that lets you walk through the forest at different levels. The architecture rests right beside the Indian ocean.

It also has a very beautiful mesmerizing view of the Ferris wheel and Marina Bay Sands.

The unique Supertrees can be found all around the garden. 12 of them in the heart of the garden and the remaining 6 are placed around the garden. The Supertree is not only a canopy that provides shelter during the day but also goes alive during the nights with some music and lights that synchronizes with the music.

The structure is made up of a reinforced concrete core in the inner vertical structure that upholds the supertree and is supported with a steel frame that is attached around the reinforcement concrete core. The trees also consist of solar panels on the top which charges during the day and the power accumulated from them is used throughout the day and in the night for lighting up the entire garden.

The entire garden consists of more than 162,900 varieties of plants comprising more than 200 species. From Orchids and Ferns to tropical flowering climbers have been planted on the 18 Supertrees.

Overall I would definitely admit that the Gardens by the Bay is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Singapore, and the Gardens is very inspiring for its sustainability and architecture. We can adopt the technology in many of our products and architecture.
