Acebook — Day 4

Short Ferret
Nov 7 · 2 min read

After starting the day with several ferret based puns (courtesy of Jess) and other such ferret themed discussions we were feeling optimistic to complete the MVP and demo it to one of the coaches.

Team 1: Yas and Jess chose to take on limiting post edit times. Users now only have 10 minutes after posting to edit the content, after that their only option is to delete the post. They came across some unforeseen issues where users could hack the route, but this was completed by the end of the day. They were also tasked with adding line breaks to posts so that users can separate their text to multiple lines (rather than having it on 1 long line).

Team 2: Brad and Dani worked on the arduous task of writing feature tests and getting them to pass. After receiving feedback from our app presentation, our team discovered the importance of following the user stories to the letter and not implementing new features even though they may seem logical. Previously the button to edit/delete a post would only appear next to your post and ‘edit’ would disappear after 10 minutes. However, according to the requirements, the ‘edit/delete’ buttons should always be visible next to every post (even if it is not yours) and if you try to delete/edit a post that is not yours then a helpful error message would appear. They also deployed the app to Heroku meaning that you can visit it here: https://salty-peak-83707.herokuapp.com/

Team 3: Jay and Nathan were tasked with redirecting the user to the login/sign up page when they attempt to visit the post page via the URL. They also attempted to help with writing feature tests which took up a lot more time than they expected.

Overall the delicious cupcakes that Dani brought in at lunchtime was a well needed boost that I think we all needed mid week. The feedback from the coach was useful and has provided new user stories for us to implement next week.

Apparently the sound ferrets make is called a ‘dook’.
