Stack Overflow did such a good job of popularizing open source that they practically made it obsolete. Just like “mobile phones” are simply becoming “phones”, “open source software” is simply becoming “software”

This sounds like you you’re suggesting Open Source as a software development paradigm has made itself obsolete, though I assume you just mean ‘obsolete’ in the need to be mentioned explicitly in these kind of naming conventions. Or do you think there is more to it?
