All Given to Mankind

“The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.” (Acts 17:24–25 ESV)

Paul is witnessing in the cultural hub of Athens. He is surrounded by the intellectuals, those that love intrigue and philosophy. He presents God to them… not a deity that serves them, or is motivated by their idolatry.

No, this God is so completely other, unique, different and Lord of all, heaven and earth. He doesn’t live in even the beautiful structures we build but instead resides in heaven. But this God that is far above us gives life to us. Life, breath, and everything.

We usually have lesser thoughts of God. He is a benevolent old man caring for those just good enough. Or a curmudgeon out to get us. The maker of the world, by grace giving man what we need.

This is our hope today. God is not served by you but instead he stands high above all of life and pours out his grace and blessings upon us. Live for that today. Celebrate what Jesus have done for you and rest in the provision only God can give.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
