Cosmic Divide

“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:3–4 ESV)

It is far too easy to take God for granted. We don’t always think of his holiness, his creative power, and his enormity. Things meant to leave us in awe of him. No, God has become a buddy to answer back little prayers for parking spots and avoiding a cold.

But the Psalm, and all of Scripture, paint a different picture, a correct picture of who God is and how mind-shattering the reality should be to us. So as we approach the Bible, we gain a sense of magnitude from the One we worship. This is right and good because it leads to a secondary awe that is all the more sweet to us.

This huge God, who hung the stars and spins the earth, crossed the cosmic divide between himself and man to think of and care for us. Jesus, the creator and sustainer of the universe leaves the comfort of the throne room of heaven to labor among hardened sinners. He gives himself up for them and calls them to himself as he is glorified. The God of the universe mindful of you.

There is no unimportant person, or situation beyond God’s purview. He is mindful and he cares. Jesus claimed and keeps you and he thinks of you all the time.

Let this drive up some awe in you today, knowing that the huge God, cares for you.
