Fully Known

“But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.” (John 2:24–25 ESV)

Jesus was performing miracles and he even declared that the temple could be destroyed and restored in three days. His base of believers was growing. But it wasn’t time yet. He did not entrust himself to them. He did not fully reveal himself, his purpose and his divinity. He knew they were fickle and not ready for the teaching he would begin to bring. Even so, he knew them.

He himself knew what was in man. He knew the motivations and thoughts of every soul that believed in him in that moment. He knows the hearts of humanity. He knows every little secret and dream. He knows all there is to know about us.

And his timing is impeccable. He doesn’t delay forever, and even knowing the hearts of men, he presents himself to suffer and die in our place. Get that: Jesus knew exactly what he was doing and just how awful you are and how broken each person he claims would be. Still he takes it on out of love. He knows everything about you and he still says, yes, I will die for her, for him.

Today, in Christ, you are fully known and fully redeemed. Chosen, forgiven and secure for eternity. Let that truth stir you today to worship Jesus all the more.
