In Hope of What’s Promised

“in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior;” (Titus 1:2–3 ESV)

It’s an introduction, which we might be prone to quickly skip over and get to more “meat.” But this introduction has the meat of faith in Jesus. That a people believing in Christ would live in hope of what is to come; would hope in the truth preached to them.

This is our life. At least it is supposed to be. Men entrusted with the duty of preaching are to declare the grace of Christ and the destination for “God’s elect.” This is the basis for living differently, motivation for hope in the midst of a painful and scandalous world. We live in hope of what’s promised.

We situate ourselves in ways to see and hear the Word of God, we participate in a local body to hear preaching, and we let the glorious news of Christ’s accomplished work for us draw us into worship and hope. To be people defined 3by our hope in another, in Jesus.

Today what would that hope look like lived out? How would your eyes brighten? Who might you encourage? How would you prioritize the day differently? Exactly where would you dance for joy?! Why not ask for the continued reminders of the hope we have by the Holy Spirit. Then live in hope. It is promised. It is yours in Christ.
