Not for His Sake Alone

“But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.” (Romans 4:23–25 ESV)

Righteousness is by faith. Faith is counted as righteousness for Abraham, as he followed the Lord and his plan. But Abraham’s story is not just for Abraham. This is a story for you. Because in the same way, for those that believe in Jesus, his death and resurrection, it would be counted to us as righteousness. Our justification is set in faith.

In Christ your sin is covered. He was delivered over for it. In Christ you are made right before God, you are reconciled to the Creator. He was raised for you. This truth changes everything. The attempts at earning are over, the resting in Christ’s finished work is ongoing.

The law is no longer our master and we are free to live in response to the grace we have been given when faith was counted to us as righteousness. Let it lighten your step today. This counting of faith is for your greatest benefit and God’s greatest glory. Rejoice!
