People do a lot to go green and avoid using materials that harms the planet. If you too belong to this category, each little step taken by you towards leading a lifestyle in an eco-friendly manner is eventually going to help you and our planet.

Talking about making the garage sale event an eco-friendly one, there are multiple ways through which you can effortlessly do that. All you need to do is read out methods that can assist you with ideas on how you can organize a garage sale that is more environmental friendly.

As the garage sale season is soon to arrive, you might have already started doing preparations for the event.Even if you are organizing the garage sale event for years, but have you ever thought about doing it in an eco-friendly way? If no, then this guide can really help you in boosting up your thought process.

Garage sales are itself a green initiative because stuff that are no more use to sellers are reused by buyers who buys them at a certain price that helps sellers to make more space at their homestead. It is a kind of win-win situation for both sellers and buyers.

Tips on Organizing an Eco-Friendly Garage Sale

1.Collect old supplies to reuse

To have an eco-friendly garage sale, it is important that you prepare yourself by collecting all necessary stuff to make your event environment friendly. With few small twists and turns you can easily take your event in a green direction.

Before few days of your garage sale, you prepare signs boards for assisting buyers with directions to the event’s location, right? How about reusing those old boards instead of making new ones?

Secondly, instead of using the “not so easy to remove” packing tapes, use the masking tapes. The masking tapes are compostable so, if you will be using masking tapes, you will take a step ahead in going green.

You can use chalk to write price on wooden items such as tables, chairs and more. This will save you from using price stickers that are made of plastics.

2. Use digital platforms

Garage sale sign boards are amazing to catch people’s attention but those sign boards can only turn heads of people who are passing from there. Switch to using digital platforms such as GotoGarageSale or Craigslist that allows its users to post their garage sale event details.

Alternatively, if you do not want to go with websites where you can list your garage sale, you can take advantage of facebook groups or instagram platform to broadcast about your event. This will help you attract more buyers because half of the world believes in finding everything on the internet. All you need to take care of is, to post it on the right platform so that your message reaches the right audience.

3. Try to join groups

Are you and your neighbors are planning to hold a garage sale on same dates? If yes, then why not do it together? Running a multi-family or yard sale means you all will get an opportunity to share all necessary resources. With this you all together will become a large group and it will be easier for buyers to stop by one yard sale instead of driving all over town to find an individual garage sale.

4. Provide discount as a reward

Those people who are environment lovers and believes in keeping the environment clean will reach at the venue by either walking or by riding a bicycle. To make them more happy, you can sell an item on little discount as a reward. For example, if you are selling a water bottle for $10, you can give your buyer the same for $8.

5. Give away the unsold stuff

Once your garage sale is over, you have a lot of work to do after that! Even if you organize the garage sale in your lawn or compound, it is your responsibility to clean everything around once your event comes to an end.

If you have lots of stuff that remained unsold, you can either donate them to NGOs or orphanages or you can reuse them in your own house. Still if you don’t want to go with any of the available options you can choose the e-recycling option. Also at the end make sure you take back all the sign boards so that you can use them for your next event.
