Chinese Whispers
Have you ever told a lie? Maybe, considering the solemnity of the subject it’s rather meaningful to ask if you have ever told something that is not an absolute truth.
Well, both of the sentences might seem equivalent but their essences stand far-flung from each other.
Don’t you think, it is quite uncomplicated and trouble-free for us to declare something as true or false. But the harsh reality is that today’s concept of truth has taken a subjective look. It’s degree of authenticity changes from one judgement to another; one witness to another and most unfortunately from one news channel to another.
It is indeed like telling an adulterated truth where you can alter and polish the facts but keeping the basic plot of the reality intact in order to make it more attractive and appealing.
Well, on a playful note, try to recall, if you are familiar with the title of this article. Speaking of the ‘Chinese Whispers’ game, there’s one thing I can say for sure that you must have really enjoyed it playing with your folks.
Moreover, I think it is safe to assume that the whole world is trapped in a ‘Chinese whispers’ game in which all the messages are twisted and passed around in a whisper in order to sprinkle some condiments to the flavour of the information.
But do you really think that before sharing any news in our social circle , we actually invest our time searching for its central source or even for its credibility?
I believe an efficient rumination can direct us to the root cause of this ridiculous human tendency of adding fake filters to hide the bitter truth.
In this post-truth world, where accessing information is so cheap and easy, there is nobody who can guarantee the absence of misinformation in the system.
Additionally, there are a plethora of chances of being vulnerable to the troubles created by doubts and factual inaccuracy. This is highly detrimental for the growth of society because any kind of foundation doesn’t stand on fabricated grounds for a longer period of time.
There’s certainly no denying that we have failed in segregating facts from fiction because we have lost our scientific temperament of questioning things before actually practising them.
We are just acting as a unit of this vicious system where false information takes shape of a factoid.
In the present scenario, we are actually giving more significance to our emotional responses and conformism rather than facts and knowledge in shaping our opinion towards any matter.
It is literally unfortunate to condone this human potential of distorting the originality of truth and serve it with a catchy caption or rather a sensational headline to act as a crowd-puller for it’s passive recipients.
It is really a high time to burst the filter bubble and face the reality with open eyes because these fake informations on social media platforms possess a tremendous ability to affect our choices, actions and even our approach towards life.
Some people transport these fake news without knowing about their factual status but others, they do it purposely in order to mislead, bemuse and even gain a handsome amount of money out of this morally incorrect business.
You must have seen many advertisements and posts online regarding quick and easy solutions to your problems. But can they be considered problem solving?
I genuinely think that these false claims push individuals into a even more perplexed and miserable state.
In nutshell, I really think that we have to make our determined efforts to filter information and ensure it’s factual precision before conveying it further.
Always keep in mind that not every lie is a prosocial lie and it can have potentially dramatic effects on this human society.
