It’s a NEW Year…so?

Why do we all get all excited because it’s a new year? Is it because you have something really exciting waiting out there as soon as the clock strikes 12….or is it because you have planned something big to start on the muhurat of 1 January 2***?

I have figured out that New Year is contagious and infectious disease that spreads like a wild fire across countries, religions, economics, castes and ages. We might be fighting our own battles and discussing ‘intolerance’, but when it comes to New Year celebrations, we are most tolerant of even our worst enemy. The poorest man living on the streets is happy because it’s New Year. He probably will not mind someone driving on the pavement on a New Year day/night….

Resolutions don’t matter because everyone has realised that they don’t make much sense after the hangover has gone. Though we do have some seriously sober blokes who not only manage to stick to their resolution, but also really make the most of the opportunity offered. Conlcusion: They would do that any which way and New Year has nothing to do with it.

So…why are we so excited with a day that’s not a New Year actually for most of us…. In India New Year is celebrated at 15 plus times by different religions, regions and traditions. Russians, Romans and Chinese too have different dates…

Therefore…the question remains why do we go all berserk on this one night and why do we all go berserk? Whatever the reason…I am reminded of Aristotle : “No excellent soul is exempt from mixture of madness”

And we all are excellent souls…which we prove via our madness about the new year!
