A SPATIALLY ANALYSED ‘COFFEE-RUN’

I couldn’t decide where to buy coffee from……….. SO I MAPPED IT!

The other day I really wanted to have coffee, but couldn’t decide where to go. Koramangala, Indiranagar, Whitefield, …. each of these destinations is an hour investment , and I didn’t want to waste time in traffic and be disappointed.

To make a well informed decision, I downloaded the name, address, rating and timings of the coffee shops listed on Google.

MAKING SENSE OF THE DATA-SET

The next step was to consolidate all the data collected in a spreadsheet. From the spreadsheet, I extracted the addresses and Geo-coded them in google fusion tables.

MAPPING ALL THE SELECTED COFFEE-SHOPS

Since I had the rating associated with this Geo-coded data, I decided to create a heat-map which could help in directing me to locations with a concentrations of coffee shops with highest ratings. One could infer from the heat-map that Indiranagar and Koramangala have the maximum concentrations. Areas such as HSR, BTM layout, Marathahalli and M.G. Road also have a good number of highly rated coffee shops.

Since I had so many options, I decided to narrow down my search further. I was interested in visualizing only those coffee shops which have the highest rating, and hopefully closest to my place in Marathahalli. I filtered out data-points in 3 buckets as per the range of ratings. I equally divided the range (3.2–5), and voila found 6 exact locations where I can go and relish a good cup of coffee.

FIND MY MAP HERE!

For me, the closest was Starbucks in RMZ Eco World Food Court… So me and my peeps set out to go there… It is situated in an newly designed space and has an outdoor seating from where you can see sculptures of Subodh Gupta and Ravinder Reddy!!

  2. Kingsmen Coffee — Bhuvanappa Layout
  3. Coorg Coffee Works- New Tippasandra
  4. Anupama Coffee Works, Wilson Garden
