Working also in IT, in systems management, I’m surrounded for the most part by men. Similar to your experience. Some years back, I worked with mainframe operations. In that job, I would get called in the middle of the night when something would happen with the system and need to go in. No one ever seeseemed concerned about my safety though after the second or third time of going in and having to walk down a deserted street with trees and shrubbery crowding the sidewalk, I began bringing my German Shepherd in with me due to my fear.

One other observation, I’ve worked with blacks, asians and hispanics but have yet to work with someone with native American heritage. It’s another group that suffers at the hands of police and has an equal or higher death rate in interactions with officers.
