“Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence wins championship”

This blog is a short summary of the great achievement of our university CVRGU and my team(DeadSec) journey of becoming the winners of SIH 2019. 12 teams made it to the SIH 2019 finals out of which 7 emerged as the winners.

Before diving deeper let me introduce you top my team members:

Rojalina Priyadarshini-Our Mentor

Adarsh Pratik- (IT Branch)-Team Leader

Abhishek Bhattacharjee-(IT Branch)

AshaJyoti Rout-(IT Branch)

Deepika Kumari-(CSE Branch)

Vikash Soni-(IT Branch)

Subham Divakar-(ETC Branch) me

At first or in the initial round, we had to submit a presentation on only one of the problem statements given by the SIH team.

Selection of Problem Statement

This is the most important aspect that every team must work very carefully. Selection of a good problem statement requires a lot of team work and discussion.

We decided to keep the presentation precise and flow diagram as simple as possible, so that it can be understood by everyone. You must include some extra features or the functionality that other’s can understand what is mentioned in the problem statement. Try to give the pictorial representation of everything you want to cover. Always remember the first impression is last impression. Finally get it reviewed by mentor before submission.

My suggestion would be not to jump upon AI, ML topics directly without working out on your Team’s strength and weakness.

Making a proper presentation

Now after you choose the problem and proposed a solution, its time to put everything to pen and paper first then into presentation. Try getting your presentations reviewed by as many people as possible for better suggestions. Our presentation was beautifully designed by Adarsh.

Our Journey (To the Grand Finals At GITA Udaipur)

At GITA Udaipur Campus

Udaipur- The city of lakes is as beautiful to visit as it is to hear about it. This was my first visit to the beautiful city. The finale was scheduled at Geetanjali Institute Of Technical Studies which is very far from the main city. The Hackathon kicked of at sharp 7:00 AM in the morning. We were informed in the beginning that we would be having 3 round of judging. Immediately we had a quick team discussion and we divided work among ourselves.

Adarsh and Vikash were working on developing the web portal. Me and Abhishek were working on the developing the ML model and Asha and Deepika were working on the Android Application. We started working with our assigned work and time was passing by very swiftly. Meanwhile we had first round of judging at around 4:00 PM. We received some good feedback from the judges and also some valuable suggestions that we had to work upon and show in the second round of judging. Adarsh showed a really important trait of a true leader who made sure that we worked together and not involve in any dispute and he even slept while working while we were taking naps in shifts.

We were really blessed to have Rojalina Mam as our mentor who kept us guiding throughout the hackathon. She even helped us out in critical scenarios when were stuck and could not find any way out.

A Good teacher is like a candle- It consumes itself to light the way for others

For the second round of judging Adarsh and Vikas worked really hard to develop the web portal and Asha and Deepika also worked hard on the Android Application which really impressed the judges. But after the second round we were given a small but crucial task of finding the disease in an unknown image.

As me and Abhishek were working on the ML model I figured it out that we can simply show classification of disease but Abhishek came up with a crucial and game changing idea of locating the exact areas and showing how much infected is the area. This impressed the judges more than anything and I think this won us the hackathon. He really proved to be person of great intelligence in coming up with the brilliant idea and he also made me work and not give up at many scenarios when I had given up. This is how a perfect team works. Each one gives their 200% to complete their tasks.

We all kept on working tirelessly, sleeping in shifts and helping each other in every way possible. The best part in working with such a good team is that you learn to stand by your team in every scenario, you learn how to do a work collaboratively and you also learn the most important thing that is Team Bonding. I am really proud and happy to share one of the cherishing moments of my life with this Team.

We even visited Udaipur City Palace and other famous tourist spots and had a real fun together. We even played in the train and enjoyed the whole journey. Be it Vikash’s card mastery or deepika’s karate or abhishek’s late night pranks. We just loved the entire trip.

“From Team DeadSec- Special Thanks to Chairman Sir and Rachita Mam for being a constant support and always helping out the students when in need.”

Lastly I would like you thank the teachers who constantly supported me during my studies and always encouraged me to work hard. Thank you Brojo Sir, Rojalina Mam, Kanungo Sir, Principal Sir , Chairman Sir and all the faculty at CVRGU for being a constant support to the students.
