I personally believe what you do matters more than the degree on the wall. It is super competitive to get into these institutions but major advantage IIT/IIM have is access to the network of other smart people in the industry — it could be fellow students, teachers or other successful alumni. I guess that’s why relatively it is much easier for them to get funding. Investors need some criteria filter the noise and investing in people from these institutes does the basic screening for them.
