SO refreshing to get a thoughtful take on the real China that underlies the “New Silk Road” political project. Rare to find such humor, humility and wonder in the same commentary. I’m a Soviet expat, and too often see the opposite: condescension, superficiality and provincialism shading into bigotry. Many thanks for a brilliant perspective.
