I wanted to shave my head because I was dropping a lot of hair and had a probing tension headache. I was stressed. I wanted to know if shaving it off would help me cope better with my hair and stress issues.

Concerned about the ramifications of having a shaved head, I googled about it. I asked questions like: ‘How does it feel to have a shaved head?’ and ‘Does it grow out awkwardly?’

I did not find many answers. What I did find more of were answers to the question: ‘Does shaving the head make hair grow out thicker?’

Many said, “No. It will not.”

I was not convinced, so I decided I must go ahead to find out.

Along that journey, these are what I’ve learned.

1. You give yourself a fresh start. It is a way to have a new experience wherever you are.

My friend brought me to the Indian barber where she had previously had her head shaved. Her presence gave me the courage I would have otherwise not have, after speaking to many people who discouraged me from doing this. The barber first cut off my bounded ponytail, as I wanted to keep it as a souvenir. It was the longest I have ever kept my hair.
