Following full recognition by the NMC, KMCTH is now listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

2. Patan Academy of Health Science (PAHS)

The Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) is a non-profit, fully independent public higher education institution that was established in 2008 with a charter granted by Nepal’s Parliament. Unlike the other universities in Nepal, PAHS offers a 6-year MBBS curriculum. For example, the University of Sydney has a clinical placement agreement with PAHS. It also has its own School of Nursing, which provides a variety of nursing programs. It also has its own School of Public Health and a post-graduate clinical sciences program. PAHS is implementing a progressive curriculum modeled after those used by an increasing number of Western medical schools.

3. B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences

The B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) is a Nepalese autonomous health sciences university. It is located in Dharan’s Sunsari District, a sub-metropolitan city. Nepal and India collaborated to establish the Institute. The Institute is made up of four colleges: the Faculty of Medicine, the College of Dental Surgery, the College of Nursing, and the School of Public Health and Community Medicine. The Institute also has a 700-bed Teaching Hospital that provides postgraduate, undergraduate, and university credential programs. The Institute confers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees, as well as a variety of certificates. The MBBS program was founded in 1994, and the postgraduate programs were founded in 1999.

4. Institute of Medicine

The Institute of Medicine (IOM), a division of Tribhuvan University, was established in 1972 with the mission and responsibility of training all types of health workers needed in the country. It established a total of 12 campuses throughout the country within the first decade of its existence, three of which were in Kathmandu and nine outside the Kathmandu Valley. In 1982, a 300-bed TU Teaching Hospital was completed with JICA’s assistance. This hospital serves the general public and serves as the hub for the IOM’s various programs’ teaching, learning, and research operations.

5. National Medical College, Birgunj, Nepal

Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal, is affiliated with National Medical College. The Nepal Medical Council has granted the college permanent certification for meeting the World Federation for Medical Education’s global undergraduate and postgraduate medical education criteria. The World Health Organization has included this college in its World Directory of Medical Schools (WHO). The medical and allied health science courses are based on the curriculum of Tribhuvan University.
