Point update

Hi all,

Just want to share a quick update on where we are.

Latest:

  • We released our iOS beta to some of our current users two weeks ago. General reception has been fairly good, though the number of testers is still small. You can follow the updates here.
  • Mobile dev was taking way too long for a few reasons. Last month we shifted focus only to mobile and are architecting the app differently. What took 3–4 months in lagging dev time was rebuilt in 3 weeks.

Here are some key dates we’re aiming towards:

  • July 30th: Getting Point to the app store. Roll it to more of our users to get feedback on some early assumptions about the share action, onboarding/education, and broader app interactions.
  • August 30th: Public beta release of the iOS app on Product Hunt. Around the same time we plan to do a strong push of the chrome extension + mobile app with marketing.

Here’s what we want to learn:

  1. How does the current mobile version improve adoption and invite conversion? Guiding thinking: currently 45% of invites are opened on mobile, ‘mobile’ is a necessary companion to desktop app (tightens feedback loop and engagement), ‘app’ is easier to understand than ‘extension’.
  2. What’s the core use case on mobile? Is it sending first, or saving to read -> then sharing to friends? Mobile contexts are different than desktop, so we’re testing a few different user flows to see which one sticks.

Finances:

  • We have cash until the end of November. We think we can use the strong push of our extension / app as time to do a raise, but I want to meet with people now to share our progress and where we’re heading. Here are some of the people we want to meet and think would be interested: VaynerRSE, Lowercase Capital, DFJ Gotham Ventures, USQ. If you have any warm connects here, an introduction would be fantastic.
