Uber ruining the day!
This is my morning routine.
Just before I get dressed for the day, I order an Uber. The Uber arrives in 10 minutes. I wrangle my daughter, her bag, my bags and we settle into the vehicle. Driver is pleasant, I drop off my daughter in kindergarten, and then make my way to work. Smooth day.
At 11:30 am, I order an Uber for my mother. Uber picks mom up, then daughter, then they make their way home. Seamless.
Over the last few weeks, this has largely been disrupted. Multiple cancellations, late school runs, late pick-ups, calling everyone around to see if they can pick up child. All because Uber drivers accept the hire, then come pretty close to location, then cancel because it’s a card payment.
Frustrating! The common reason for this increasing dilemma — drivers say they don’t get their card payments on time from Uber, unverified. This could be the case, and in these current times it’s understandable. What’s not comprehensible, why then do they sign-up in the first place? Do they not know how the system works, that Uber is chosen because of its ability to pay by card!
What can be done about it?
If payment is the issue, Uber needs to sort it out stat! Alright, maybe it’s tough with all the fees, and whatnot. Then make Uber cash only.
But don’t do that, card payments is the reason I use it every single day! Just add ‘flag the driver’ feature. Drivers don’t cooperate, then ban them. I’m sure they are already aware of the offenders, but it will be nice if we can vent out our frustrations by helping you flag them.
While you are at it, please fix the map!
Switch to PickMe? I really do like PickMe but my user behaviour towards it is different. I use it for quick tuk rides mostly, and when Uber surges. Now, though there isn’t a massive difference in prices. Ultimately, PickMe is an inferior app compared to Uber. I feel strongly towards Uber because I know simple things can be fixed, for instance — when they deduct cancellation fees when it’s clearly their fault, I can still navigate the system and get it refunded. PickMe doesn’t command my trust yet. Also, they don’t have the very useful feature of multiple stops, which I use all the time. Oh, and the app crashes from time to time too.
Here’s the thing, Uber is messed up and doesn’t seem like they really care about fixing it. Now, I have two options to consider:
Use PickMe and see how that goes
Hire a driver.
Tough pickle!
