I spend a lot of time thinking about how to actually do something sequentially or incrementally, and make it as intuitive as possible to understand how we arrive from x,y,z to a,b,c. This takes time though, because when I first learn something new, I try to understand it to whatever depth I can, and then rethink through it. The last part of my learning exercise helps me to simplify and explain this using things one already knows.
I have been using this technique at work, to the extent that I use it whenever I am asked a question as well. This has actually helped a lot of people to understand the connection and build on it. And that’s what teaching is all about isn’t it?
