Koi fish are no different from any other fish, what makes this fish in particular so special is their coloring and lineage. Each koi has its significance in Japanese culture:

  • Ogon: The platinum koi signifies business success and material wealth in career.
  • Ochiba: This unique blue and yellow koi represents the change of seasons and transition.
  • Kohaku: This common color pairing, red and white, represent career success. It can also mean love and compassion.
  • Gold Koi: Wealth, prosperity, growth.
  • Butterfly koi: This flowing koi signals elegance, beauty and harmony.

They all represent a material and spiritual abundance or advancement. They’re always at ease in the water, flowing as the tide runs deep under water. They row at ease through the water as the tide runs deep.

Overrall, they signify a lot for the Japanese culture. The most interesting part about it is that they weren’t always a brilliant colorful fish. They mutated and developed colors.
