Sia Support Update — Transactions and syncing

This update will walk you through solutions for a couple of recent issues affecting Sia-UI. Our dev team is currently working to address these issues. The following resolutions should work, but there is a chance that the problem may persist. If it does, another attempt may resolve it, or you may need to wait for an update from our team. I’ll update this space as new information becomes available.

Issue: Your transaction shows up in the explorer but not in your wallet

These typically include transactions that involve exchanges or mining pools, but can sometimes affect Sia to Sia transfers or others types. Don’t worry, they’re still linked to your seed — they’re just not showing up in your wallet yet.

Resolution Overview

You’ll need to reinitalize your wallet, either by using the Terminal tab within Sia-UI or by editing the wallet folder from the Sia data folder. Make sure you have your 29-word seed prior to attempting these steps.

Option 1: Use Terminal to reinitalize your wallet from your seed

Make sure you have your 29-word seed before attempting these steps.

Go to the Terminal tab in Sia-UI.

Type the following exactly as it appears here: wallet init-seed --force

In case that’s hard to make out, it’s one dash in init-seed and two before the word —-force.

Once you enter this, you’ll be prompted to enter your 29-word seed again. Sia-UI will scan the blockchain for any transactions involving your wallet and show them in the Wallet tab.

Option 2: Rename the wallet folder and restore from your seed

If you’ve updated to v1.3.1, open Sia-UI and go to the About tab. Click on ‘Show Sia Data. The Sia data folder will be opened in your OSes file explorer.

If not, you can find this folder using these locations, depending on your OS:

  • Windows: Users\<user>\appdata\roaming\Sia-UI\sia\wallet
  • OS X: $HOME/Library/Application Support/Sia-UI/sia/wallet
  • Linux: $HOME/.config/Sia-UI/sia/wallet

Once you’re in the right spot, you’ll see something similar to this:

Quit Sia-UI before proceeding.

Rename this folder to wallet-old, or something similar.

Reopen Sia-UI and go back to the Wallet tab. You’ll see the same screen that you did the first time you launched Sia-UI.

Choose ‘Load a wallet from a seed’. Sia-UI will ask you for your 29-word seed. Enter it.

Sia-UI will rescsan the blockchain for all transactions belonging to your seed, and show them in the Wallet tab when it is finished.

Issue: Sia-UI says it is synced at block 139,885, but my transactions aren’t updating

The Sia network should have a block height of around 141,461 as of 3:15 PM EST on February 12th. If you see Synchronized in green text but the block height hasn’t passed 139,885, use the resolution below.

Resolution Overview

You’ll need to delete the copy of the blockchain that Sia-UI currently has and download a new one. This means that Sia-UI will need to re-sync completely, which can take some time.

Delete the blockchain and let it re-sync

Quit Sia-UI first. You’ll need to delete the consensus.db file, which is located in:

  • Windows: Users\<user>\appdata\roaming\Sia-UI\sia\consensus\consensus.db
  • OS X: $HOME/Library/Application Support/Sia-UI/sia/consensus/consensus.db
  • Linux: $HOME/.config/Sia-UI/sia/consensus/consensus.db

Note: You can also use the ‘Show Sia Data’ button in the About section in Sia-UI v1.3.1. If you get to the folder using this method, remember to quit Sia-UI before deleting consensus.db.

Once consensus.db is deleted, re-open Sia-UI and let it re-sync.

The wrap up

If these solutions don’t work for you, sit tight. Our dev team is at work on a resolution. You can email hello@sia.tech if you need any additional assistance.
