1/ Yes, Locks are currently problematic in the UK. There is not a single (to my knowledge) approved to BS3621 so none can actually be used as the sole lock on main entry doors. Kinda defeats the point if you have to also have a manual level lock. Keep an eye out for any new product releases.

As a serial interviewer, I’m acutely aware of the bias which comes from knowing how my company works and expecting candidates to know the same — when they clearly can’t.
This question is not only illuminating in and of itself, it forces the interviewer to be more aware of their own biases.
I think a bunch of points you make at the start of this article about the tension between journalistic intent and profit are really on-point — and that most people (me included) aren’t always able to discern the difference between expensive/good journalism and cheap/bad journalism, and this further weakens the perception of value.

It’s a bluetooth receiver only. Though theoretically if you had a BT transmitter that could stream to multiple receivers then you could use the Echo as one such receiver.
But this is not an intended or likely common scenario.
TMK there’s no API for Siri to let devs build custom Siri-powered experiences. Also, to date, you can’t use Siri to control apps on your device (“hey Siri, play Coldplay on Spotify”).
But if I was Apple I’d be working hard to enable deep app integration. I’d also be building a device that gives Siri a physical presence in the home — just like the Echo.
